Harry Buswell was born in Lewiston, Maine, and lived in Norway, Maine, with his parents, one brother and three sisters. One of Harry’s special memories is going on Sunday rides with his parents. “You never knew where we were going.” The family later moved to Bethel, Maine, where he graduated from Telstar High School. After graduation, Harry worked as a logger for two years before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force.
During his time in the Air Force, Harry served in Korea for one year, Germany for two years, and then Illinois for the remainder of his active duty service. After leaving active duty, Harry continued his service in the National Guard for five more years. While serving for the National Guard, he went to Guatemala for a month where he assisted in building roads and schools as a heavy equipment operator. Harry received the Good Conduct Medal for his service and speaks fondly of his time in Germany.
“I enjoyed the countryside, the people and their stories.”
He’s glad he served his country and would do it again if he could.
Following his military career, Harry worked as a long haul truck driver. He married his wife Wanda in 1992, and they loved to dance at local country music dance halls. Harry has 3 children, 2 step-children, 5 grand-children, 1 step grand-child, and 1 step great-grandchild. Harry volunteered at the South Paris Fire Department for 30 years. He is also a member of the AMVETS and American Legion Post in Greenwood. He enjoys playing bingo, auto racing, hunting, fishing and outings. Harry came to MVH South Paris in November 2016.
Thank You, Harry, for your service to our nation!
