Donald Reynolds was born and raised in Lincoln, Rhode Island. During school, Donald was passionate about sports. He played basketball, football, and baseball at Cumberland Rhode Island High School. In some ways he took after his father when it came to sports. The elder Reynolds was inducted into the Rhode Island Hall of Fame for soccer.

“I wasn’t much for soccer, though,” Donald said.

After Donald graduated from high school in 1954, he joined the Army, where he was a paratrooper in Germany and Korea. He served for three years before returning home, at which point he worked for Grinnell Sprinkler Company. He traveled throughout New England, installing sprinkler systems.

Love at First Sight

Because of work, he met his wife, Martina Meagher, in 1960, while on a business trip in Maine. He married her later that year and moved to Newport, Maine, where the newlyweds bought a house. After two years of continuing to work for Grinnell, Donald decided to take a job at Eastland Woolen Mill in East Corinna to be closer to his wife. They have three children – two sons and a daughter – who all inherited Donald’s athletic prowess.

“They were outstanding athletes,” he said.

Donald Climbs the Career Ladder

After working for the mill, Donald was employed by Shop N Save in Newport, where he went from bagging groceries to store manager in a ten-year span. After this, he worked for a large brewery as a salesman and then became a manager for 17 years before retiring.

Now a resident at Maine Veterans’ Homes - Bangor, Donald Reynolds has been named Veteran of the Month for October. Thank you for your service, Donald.
