The most photographed lighthouse in the world is located only miles away in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, situated along the state’s scenic, rocky coast. The Museum at Portland Head Light is located within the former Keeper’s Quarters and includes a number of lighthouse lenses and displays.
Next door is the 90-acre Fort Williams Park. Enjoy beautiful ocean views, hiking, green space, and more here.

Portland's Old Port
Among the working waterfront in historic downtown Portland, Maine, is what locals call the Old Port, where you can find shopping, tours of Casco Bay, theater, art galleries and a robust restaurant scene.
Plenty of small businesses make their homes in the Old Port, along with brand names you’ll recognize. Lodging is also available in this walkable portion of the state’s largest municipality.
Founded in 1912, L.L. Bean in Freeport, Maine, is an icon in outdoor clothing and equipment. Its flagship store, among other small businesses and name-brand outlets, is open 24 hour a day, seven days a week, except for Christmas Day.
Even if you’re not buying anything, the store is a destination for many. A number of events, concerts and outdoor excursions are held and organized there.
If you don’t feel like going to Freeport for an outdoor store, travel just a few miles down the road to Cabela’s. Besides offering outdoor items, clothing and shoes, the showroom features museum-quality animal displays, aquariums, mounted trophy animals and an indoor archery test area.
