Scarborough-George-Pope-Feb-2017-RESIZE.jpgAt Maine Veterans' Homes our mission is "Caring For Those Who Served," and it is a charge that we take incredibly seriously.  Although MVH has won numerous state and national awards, the recognition we appreciate the most is when residents and their families tell us how satisfied they are with their care.  Our Scarborough Home recently received just such a letter:

To the MVH Scarborough Staff:

My father George R. Pope had been in your care on and off for the past 18 months.  I thought it was time to write and say thank you to the many people that took care of and worked with my dad.  My dad had never used his VA benefits and never spoke much about the military.  it was in a conversation with a friend who had brought his father up to you location and had nothing but high praise for the treatment his father received there that made me aware of your services.

So, when the opportunity arrived, I suggested to my dad we give the Maine Veterans' Homes in Scarborough a try.  From the moment I walked into your building and started to meet the staff, I knew we had found the right place.  The facility is marvelous (bright and clean) and the people working there are absolutely first-rate.  I cannot say enough positive things about the staff.  The people I met with during the day from social services, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and so many other were so compassionate and giving of themselves.  The nursing staff, the CNA's, the tech guys, the food service folks were all so helpful.  It wasn't until George passed away that I realized that I had not met many of the evening staff and to them I am so very grateful for their work.

I know that some names have already slipped away, but everyone deserves praise.  I am not sure how these many people do their jobs day to day.  I am sure it is not always easy.  Everyone there must have hearts of gold.  I remember one of the times my dad was released and after we were settled in the car, he said, "I've never heard my name mentioned so many times."  I know he felt safe there, even though he was always excited to get back home.

I want you to know, I always felt relived and assured George was in good hands every time I walked out the door leaving him behind.  For that reason alone, I want to thank everyone there for their professionalism and kindness.

Respectfully,

Richard M. Pope and Family
